I did a 3:55 to 3:90 swap sometime back as tech for Truckin' Magazine on
my Dakota using Precision Gear products. With the new rear end I'm
building, I'm using a 3:70. IMHO 3:90s were a little steep for daily
driving. The best bet is, unless you're totally comfortable wit the
swap, have it done by a certified mechanic or driveline shop. All you
need is the rear end to become shrapnel, leaving you with big $$ in
damage and lots of paperweights.
