Hi folks! I've got a 2wd 98 CC Sport, 5.2 L, 5 spd., 3.92 SG with about 6K miles, and it has always made a popping, rumbling noise on overrun ( when decelerating in gear with the throttle closed), especially going downhill. I just put on a 3" Edelbrock "Tru-Flo" muffler with the pipe exiting in front of the right rear wheel, and it is much louder (of course) and more noticeable, even down to just above idle in any gear. Is this common on the Magnum V8's? I can't help but wonder if this is related to my typical 11-12 mpg mileage. On a brighter note, I really like the tone of the muffler. Authoritative, without being obnoxious! I got p/n 5505, 3" center in/out, which is the same muffler that Edelbrock supplies in their complete cat-back system for Daks. Making my own system probably saved me 30 #'s over the stock system. Next week I'll be installing the headers I got from Mike Leach and had coated at Sermatech. I 've had headers coated by Jet-Hot, HPC and now Sermatech, and although all did good work, Sermatech was the most reasonable, allowing me to throw in a few other pieces for the same price. It doesn't hurt that they are 15 minutes away, saving me shipping 2 ways. Jet-Hot wanted an extra $100 to coat the Y-pipe!
While I was at Leach's, Mike showed me all the other stuff they make for Mopars, including the MP cat back systems with a straight thru "no packing" muffler, and V10 headers. When they are not making Mopar stuff, they do a lot of the header development work for Doug Thorley. They are also the West Coast base for Tom Hoover and the Pioneer Funny car.
While I've got your attention, what is the story on the CC driveshafts? My truck has the 2 piece shaft, but I notice that late 98's and all 99's have the fatboy aluminum 1 piece shaft. Do I want the 1 piece shaft? Is there a warranty replacement program? Do I need to press the issue with the dealer? My dealer is Glenn Thomas Dodge, who changed the driveshaft on Car & Driver's longterm test vehicle after they split the boot off twice, but when I asked, the service writer denied all knowledge of any warranty replacement.
Thanks for your help
