Dan,

The extended warranty is a 'Commision' item for the dealership.
The actual cost for the warranty is less than $100 (I've been told) for
the dealership. You should be (should have been) able to get them
down to $500 or so. If you do buy the ext. warranty, make sure it
is a Chrysler Warranty, and not a 'Dealer extended warranty' (that's
through a 3rd party). The Chrysler Warranty will more than likely
cost more...that's why they push the lower cost one.

Buy or not to buy:

Relatively speaking, if you take care of the truck, have all of the items
that crop up fixed promptly (under warranty), you should have no real
problems making it past the end of the 'ext. warranty' mileage/time
wise. But, if you do experience problems, are you in a position to pay
those repairs ($250-1500 with $500-600 the real average for BIG repairs)
out of pocket??? If not, then the warranty would be the way to go.

I didn't get it on my '95 SLT Dakota, and at around 66500 miles I lost the
bearings in the rear end. $550 for the repairs (and a few other maint.
items).
Now, passing 103500 miles (I am selling the truck, bought a new RC RT)
no other problems. If I'd purchased the $750 ext. warranty, I would have
wasted
$250.00 If it went worse, then I would have paid more.

Both of my '99s (wife has a RT CC, and my RT RC) don't have the Ext.
Warranties.
I will be on top of ANY problems that occur though, and make sure it gets to
the
dealer (and repaired) within the 3/36....

Good luck!

Sam '99 RT
