Fellow R/T owner,
Bummer. My R/T has almost 13K on it with no signs of any tranny probs at
all. I have about 25 runs @ the track as well as a lot of on the road stop
and go and high speed driving :^)... The fluid looks good although I am
remiss in changing it out so far. Since Im planning on putting a 46RH/E
behind a 500HP big block Im real interested in transmission issues! Did you
install the shift kit prior to all of your woes (IE did you have it
installed on your first tranny before it gave it up?) I would suggest
calling some experts that are non-dealer related like level 10 (973)
827-1000 (trans) or protorque (516)218-8700 (converters) to discuss the
transmission probs. The 46RE isnt that much different from the 727a 3spd,
and I have heard of many 100K 518s out there ( and Ive got a 300K 904 that
still shifts well!). Just loosing reverse should be pretty easy to
diagnose! I did get the extended 100K warranty specifically for the tranny
and paint though. Just my luck Ill never use it...hopefully!

Subject: DML: R/T Problems
Hey fellow DMLers and R/T Resigtry,
I have a problem with my 1998 CC Dakota R/T. I have had to have tranny
work done on my truck by the dealer twice now. The first time it was
slipping
in all gears and would hardly move in reverse. They replaced it totally,
new
tranny and torque converter, this was at about 5,000 miles. Now at 10, 000
miles I have no reverse at all, but all the forward gears are great (no
change
since new tranny put in) just no reverse. I took it to the dealer and they
are going to fix it. Ok, you say what is the prob, the dealer is fixin it,
well what happens when the warranty runs out at 36,000 miles. I don't want
to
get the extended because I plan on going with a cam, blower from Kenne-bell,
etc.... I have a total of about 30 runs at Moroso, ?? Has it cost me two
trannies to go to the drag strip this many times?? I am seriously worried
about the durability of the transmissions in these R/T's. Here's what I do
when I am at the track. 1. avoid water box 2. heat up tires with a short (5
sec) burn out 3. Load up engine at 1500 rpms 4. Lauch at same rpms w/18psi
on
stock tires 5. after I pass the 1/4mile mark let up and coast. Thats it,
nothing different than probably the rest of you do. During the week I am
easy
my truck, unless provoked by Ferd or Chebby, or fellow Dodge owner (usually
Ram's that hear my badass exhuast note). I have put on Mike Leech Headers
and
full race exhaust (no cat 2.5'' pipe to two stock Walker Ultra Flows) oh and
a
Trans-go shift kit (mild level). My best time is 14.9 at 91.33mph. This
was
with no reverse(I had just started to have the no reverse sympthom (sp) when
I
got to the track that night, so I had not run yet, therefore that didn't
cause
reverse to go out. I need help, suggestions, and to know if anyone else has
these similar tranny problems or other tranny problems with the 46RE.
Thanks
ahead of time for responses. R/T = REVERSE TEARS-UP???? HELLP!!
