Mike -
I must not have been clear in my previous question: I understand what
you're saying about heat, etc., I'm just not sure where you route the open
ends of the tubes to the outside air. Can't tell in the photos on your
site. I sure like the looks and I buy the concept.
Thanks,

Really neat looking setup! Where do the ends of the air hoses ingest the
cool air?
Dave Howe
actually took temperature readings on about every different setup
out there. This was done by inserting a temperature probe into the
air stream inside the different air filter setups. The end result
was the open air filters suck air that is about 30 to 40 degrees
hotter than a ram air set up. Sitting at a light or turn on your
A/C and you can go ahead and add to that number. The ram air was
consistently only a few degrees hotter than the outside temperature.
Although sitting in traffic the temperature did start to climb on
the ram air set up as soon as you started to move the temperature
immediately went down. The ram air also had the added benefit of
creating pressure on the air at speeds. As far as wasting time and
money for about $200 you can have a decent looking ram air set up
if your willing to spend a little of your own time in the process.
I was considering a after market hood but decided to stick with the
factory hood so the ram air was the best choice for me. My truck runs
like a dog when it's hot out. Maybe it's just my truck but cold air
made a big difference on my truck especially in the hot summer months.
I'm certain the ram air is helping my track time also which for me
was one of the main reasons to go in that direction. It may not
be for everyone but it's certainly not a waste of time and money.
One last note I purchased the Ram Air by air inlet systems and
with some modification this set up has worked great for me. If
you want to see it here's the link.
