The older daks can take up to 6.25 back spacing. The newer dak wheels
have something around 6.75" backspacing. (don't quote me on those
#'s)They would work if they were 17", because the rim touches the
a-arm at full lock. If it were a bigger rim, it wouldn't touch anything. I'm still
out to lung on the R/T rims. I think they have even more backspacing...

Everything I've heard indicates that the factory 15x8 wheels on the '97s
and
newer have too much backspacing to be used on the older body style.
Unless
you want to run with spacers, that's up to you. Personally, when I
eventually get new wheels I'm just going to try to find some with the right
backspacing to begin with.
