[on my soapbox]
7-10 feet between you and her at 45mph is a bit close for my taste... Me
personally I as a rule keep my truck about a truck length between myself and
someone else. Being a former Fireman/Paramedic we had to learn emergency
vehicle operations. One of the rules that was pounded into our heads is keep
at least 1 to 1 1/2 vehicle lengths distance between your vehicle and the
one in front(the more the distance the better). This will afford you just
enough time to stop, or swerve. And believe me those ambulances are very
heavy and a bitch to handle in other than going in a striaght line. They
weigh in at the minimum of 15,000lbs GVW (for a Type 1 HiTop Van) up to
65,000 lbs GVW for a MCU. And people will do the most stupidest shit right
in front of you at the worst possible moment.
[pushed off my soapbox]

Anyways hope everything works out, and that you and the driver are all
right.
