sensor in radiator hose? (can you guys with electric fans help?)

I'd like to put a temp sensor in my upper radiator hose. I seem to
recall reading that this is how a lot of electric fans with t-stats
get their temp readings. (to decide when to kick on the fans)

So... To anyone who has done this, how was it done? Did you just
drill a hole in the hose, stick the sensor in there and seal it
with silicon? (if so, how big was the sensor; mine is 1/8"?) Or was
there an adaptor that goes in the hose, or...?

Basically, I want to have my temp guage read from the upper radiator
hose, so I'm looking for a way to get the sensor in there in such a way
that it won't leak...

  TIA!
