You can run win95/98 on alot less than the "minimum". I originally installed
win95 on a 486DX33 with 4 meg of ram. Obviously it didnt run well but it did
run. The thing that i think some of you are failing to consider is that it
takes a pretty beefy machine (at least a P90) to decode those mp3's and play
them without an occasional skip. Especially if anything else is running in the
background. I have a P166MMX at home with 64 meg of ram and it even skips
occasionally depending on what else i'm trying to do. The nice thing is that
you could build a p166 now for next to nothing. If i'm not mistaken someone
earlier in this thread suggested just getting one of those police mounts and a
nice laptop. I think in the end that would be the most efficient way to go
unless you wanna wait for in-dash mp3 players. Clarion already has their
auto-pc on the market (for a pretty penny) with the windows CE operating system
on it. It has a slot for a memory card and i wouldnt doubt that there is a
windows CE MP3 player out there.

Microsoft Minimum Recommendations:

Win95 - 386/SX-16 or Higher w/8MB Minimum ("Chicago" BETA up to SP1)
Win95 (rev B & C) - 486/DX-33 or Higher w/16MB Minimum
Win98 - 486/DX-66 or Higher w/16MB Minimum

In the real world though, you shouldn't be running Win95/98 on anything less
than a Pentium 90 w/32MB...it just swaps too much and runs too slow.

Are we back to Daks yet???
