Kind of sounds like a problem I had on my 74 Ramcharger. When I dropped
the tank to change the fuel lines and sending unit sock, I mis-routed one of
the lines connecting to the sending unit. I think it was the actual supply
line. When I would drive it would run normally (hard to start though)m but
when I floored it, it would starve and cut out.

When I was dropping the tank again, I all of the sudden heard kind of a
sucking sound and it turned out I was actually pinching off the fuel line
between the tank and a frame member. After re-routing the line it ran fine.
