I also had problems running a '96 5.9 comp on a '96 5.2. The timing and
spark were off and would not fire corrrectly. It detonated quite a bit. I
could not recommend doing this with any degree of satisfaction.

  I ran a 5.9 computer on my 5.2 before I put the actual 5.9 in the
truck and it ran bad, not terrible, but not good. It got way to much
fuel and changed the spark curve too much for that little 318. That was
the old body style and computer though.
