Temperature induced brittle fracture is more likely with cast iron
than aluminum. Maybe there are other engine characteristics that
caused it.
Any other damage? Pistons, rods etc?
Do you know for sure if couldn't have been damaged from before or
whether it really *is* cracked?
I'm pretty sceptical about dealers/mechanics these days.
