Go Karts...yup...that's the way I started (and got back into). Moved my way
up to motorcycles, then cars, then the Camaro...and then...well...THE
DAKOTA!!! ;)

Seriously though, Very good point, once you understand the basics on how an
engine works, you'll begine to more clearly understand how to "modify" and
get more Power out of them. Whatever configuration it may be (Turbo,
Blower, FI, Carb, etc...) they all work on the same principle...AIR
(basically BIG air pumps). The more you can get in and the quicker you can
get it out, the more power you make. (More efficiently as well.)

     If you're interested in engines, I think the best thing you can do is
to get a book on small engine repair and pick yourself up an old lawnmower
or better yet, a go kart. This is the simplest and cheapest way to start
learning. I think Bernd will back me up on this one. Its a heck of a lot
easier to work on and your mistakes are cheaper to correct.
