<<In looking at them, the stock group is some kind of plastic. I'm sure it
has it's benefits ... lighter, won't bend outa shape if smacked...>>
You're kidding, yes?! Plastic skid plates?? If this is true, i'd pass.
<<What are some of the opinions on the list of skid plates in general?>>
I wouldn't go off-road without them! I went on a really mild trail (almost a
dirt road) and when I changed my oil a couple of days later I couldn't believe
the gouge that was in the front suspension plate. Don't remember bottoming out
on anything but it was there non-the-less. I figure that ding alone (harmless
on the plate but who knows what it might have broken if it wasn't there)
probably covered the cost of them.
<<Should I try and find some nice aftermarket metal ones?>>
Steel or nothing IMHO... Does MOPAR make nothing but plastic now? My
'98 plates are steel maybe they will fit the '00 if ya' can find 'em?
<<I realize they can be a pain for maintenance down the road. Any
comments or opinions welcome.>>
Oil, tranny fluid and lubes don't seem any more difficult to me.
