I put Rancho RS5000s on my Dak at about the 40,000 mile mark, thinking they
were the 'best' shock out there. Initially, I was pleased with the ride; I
may have also been ignorant because it was my first truck and a 4WD truck at
that. After 6 months the bushings on ALL the shocks were shot. I bought a
$40 polyurethane bushing kit and installed them. I will never buy Rancho
products again and would never suggest anyone to buy them also. Their
customer service, for me atleast, was crap and their products to me are
crap. All of these shocks are bad condition currently(118,000 miles) and
need to be replaced very soon. Also, I will never buy shocks again which
dont already come with urethane bushings at both ends on all the shocks.
Bilsteins are my next choice of shock which will go on my Dak; the cheapest
is $49.99 at Autozone and it does not matter if you want front or rear as
they are the same price. By the way, most of the time my tires are inflated
to 50PSI and have driven them with a mere 20PSI in them, in both conditions
I felt the shocks did not or could not handle my Dak nor the road/trail
conditions. Try looking at the technical write-ups I did during the quest
for new shocks:
