Subject: Help w the Dak at the track
So last weekend I had the Dak at opening day at Cayauga (sp?) I have
only
been driving a Stick shift for about a month and a half I figured I'd
have
a little trouble with my launch. Well that may have been an
understatement. Here are the details of my 6 passes with a little
critique
from memory any advice or tricks for better launch would be great.
Truck = Stock regular cab short bed Dakota (RCSB) with 318, HD5sp, HD
rear(9.25" I think) w 3.92 gears
1st : lame ass burnout/Dumped the clutch mashed the pedal/spun through
1st
& 2nd/hooked way late 2nd missed 3rd (redfaced)
R/T .873
60' 2.688
1/4 19.367
Mph 77.35
2nd : decent burnout + tried launching in 2nd/dump clutch,mash pedal/no
spin, mild bog. dammit!
R/T 1.035
60' 2.570
1/4 16.727
Mph 85.13
3rd : okay b-out/dump & little less mash/still lots of spin in 1st/hooked
a
little end of 1st/spun again in 2nd/ best time.
R/T .737
60' 2.416
1/4 16.690
Mph 84.79
4th : no burnout/dump&mash in 1st/not much hook through 1st/hooked 2nd
R/T .838
60' 2.338
1/4 17.786
Mph 83.43
5th : figured I'd try launching in 2nd again so naturally I had a great
burnout and bogged it on the launch again! dam dam dam!/so frusterated by
bogging almost missed 3rd to boot.
R/T .805
60' 2.882
1/4 17.242
Mph 84.12
6th : (against Dragon Don's Baby Viper) okay b-out/feathered the launch
hooked ! in 1st even!/fortunately Don's alarm hadn't woken him yet 8-)
(Don's R/T 1.597) felt like the fastest run of the day/numbers were a
little disappointing.
R/T .849
60' 2.493
1/4 16.795
Mph 84.30
all runs shifted at around 4500,
Man it was fun! but I kinda figured with the 3.92 rear I'd be under 16 s.
maybee I shoud look at a 3.55? thoughts comments?
puts the Dart into perspective though!
