Limited Slip Differential -- GMC vs. Dodge (long post)

I went to a "GMC Truckshow" in Dallas this weekend.
It was one of those shows where GM invites people to
test drive their vehicles against the competing models
from Ford, Dodge, Toyota, etc.

GM had sort of an off-road set-up on one of their test
loops and they touted something about the LSD on GM
vehicles that differs from the competition. GM claims
that their rear differential actually locks the rear
wheels together 100% upon the slightest loss of
traction or none at all. GM claimed that the
competition's LSD takes longer to engage or will not
engage at all under extreme circumstances.

To prove their point, they had us drive their Tahoes,
Suburbans, Sonoma's, Sierra trucks, etc. to the top of
a small hill and then stop when we had at least 1 rear
wheel and in some cases, 1 front wheel, off the
ground. Then all of their trucks proceeded to
effortlessly clear this hill/obstacle in 2wd mode
(even though we were driving 4x4 vehicles).

The 4x4 Dodge Durango which supposedly had a LSD and
was engaged in 4wd could not do this unless it was
backed up and then proceeded forward with some
momentum. The 4x4 Ford Expedition was lucky to make
it over at all. The Toyota Sequoia did ok in 4wd,
depending upon who was driving it (we made it over
ok). Conspicuously absent at this event was the Dodge
Dakota, BTW!!

So the pending question for the group is whether GM's
claim is true or what David Cooperfield magic trick
they played to make the competition (especially Ford)
look so bad.
