A couple of things- If you didn't start from scratch and adjust the rockers
in the sequence I posted, you may not have them all adjusted correctly, and
need to start over.
If you don't have any tappet sounds, or other odd noises, you MAY have your
plug wires crossed. It happens to the best of us. Check you plug wires
again.
If they check out, remove both valve covers, and all rockers.. start over.
You will have an exxon valdez on your hands if you run the truck for any
length of time without the covers. I took a stock set and cut the top
opening to try to fine tune the adjustment over the standard 'feel'. This
helped keep the oil lose to about 1/2 quart vs. 3 quarts.. but the
adjustment wasn't really necessary. All of the 1.7s I've done have come out
fine.
