John,
Unless your crossmember bolts in and can be removed, DON'T TRY to drop
you're oil pan. It won't come off the way the service manual tells you it
will. Trust me, I've been there. If your crossmember is welded in, you
have to pull the engine to remove the pan. I had everything removed from
the underside of the engine too. Exhaust, starter, steering assembly, stone
shield on the face of the transmission. Nothing helped.

I've tried every way possible to get it out even with the assistance of a
FSM. Even spoke to the service techs down at the local dealerships. They
all told me how to take it out just like the FSM tells you. Yeah sure!
Well after I couldn't get the pan off, I took it in to them. Guess what?
They couldn't get it off either. Not without pulling the engine.

I was lucky. I only needed to replace the oil pan gasket. They wound up
worming a new gasket up around the pan to get it into place. But if the pan
would need to come off for whatever reason, the engine has to come out.

Try to reach it with a magnet or something.
Good-luck,
Rich - Ashburn, VA

Subject: DML: dropped a lifter into oil pan

Hey Everyone,

I'm doing this cam project and I dropped a lifter into the oil pan, it was
the lifter on the drivers side closest to the firewall. It was sticking and
wouldn't push up so I pushed it down and tried to catch it but it slipped
out
of my fingers (must have been covered in oil or something heh eh)

Anyway does anyone know if I can drop the oil pan far enough to reach in
and get it or do I have to remove it? Because (according to the FSM) I have
to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the motor to remove the pan
completely
and I don't want to have to do that. My friend Becca is going to help me on
monday and she has much narrower arms than I do (but much better breasts and

butt, sorry if that offends anyone but it is a compliment after all).
