Yep, it was great to finally meet you, Mark! And of course, drool over
your truck for a while! :-) I'll be looking forward to seeing a post
from you in the near future with a new best time! :-) I'll second your
sentiments regarding the tent! I have one similar in size to Bob's (although
its nowhere near as nice; mine was a $10 K-mart special.) :-) I'll try to
remember to bring it next year so we can put 'em together and double the
shade. :-)
This was my first time to the Nats, and it was a lot of fun. I
definitely recommend getting there thursday if possible so you can
be well rested and have time to see everything. Unfortunately, I did
not get to see any of the racing (was hoping to get some videos of
Daks and such for the home page), I did wander around the vendor areas
and picked up a couple of items for the cuda. As far as the Nats vs
Carlisle goes, I think Carlisle is better as far as the show goes,
and organization. The facilities are definitely better at Carlisle;
nice clean bathrooms, and the large food service area are better
than the porta-potties (w/no running water) and burger tents.
If you're into racing though, the nats has the advantage there
with a much nicer track. I only made it out to Brice Rd. one night,
and that was fun (met up with Tim and James; where were the rest of
you guys? :-) it was nice to see all the cars out "in
their element" and not just parked on a show field. So, I dunno
if one is better or worse than another, I guess it depends on your
perspective and what you are into. I'm hoping to go back next
year. Oh, and speaking of which, if any DMLers are planning to
go back next year, I highly recomend the Cross Country Inn in
Westerville; very nice, and the rates are reasonable. (Plus, its
got a pool!) :-)
