12 volt vs. 125vac

I recently looked at some switches and something definitely caught my eye. I
saw switches that were Xamps at 125vac.

What is 125vac? 125 volts a/c power?

Would a switch rated at 20amp at 125vac work in the place of a switch rated
for 20amp at 12 volt?

So much to learn. So little time ;-)
