Subject: DML: ever hear of this happening?
Jim,
A number of things come to mind with that much oil in the engine. The
crankshaft was probably operating at least half submerged. The crank throws
were churning a tremendous volume of oil. The pressure on the crank seals
was beyond their design. The amount of oil splashed on the cylinder walls
was beyond the ring's ability to wipe completely. The pistons were pulling
downward large amounts of oil on the down stroke. The lifters and cam were
likely to have been flooded.
I would love to have seen how much oil was finally drained. At the very
least, the engine should be torn down completely to assess and repair the
damage and a replacement engine may be cheaper. Good luck.
Neil
