Hey 2.5L crowd: more performance mods(longish)

For the few of us who have the gen III 2.5, I've made a few
discoveries. If you already know these things, please ignore this post.
;)
As we all know, this is a jeep motor. What I discovered is that the
Jeep 4.0L throttle body uses the same bolt pattern as the 2.5L, and in
fact is exactly the same in every dimension except throat size, which is
considerably bigger. So I got one from a 95 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 off of
www.car-part.com for $42 shipped! You have to switch over the TPS and
the MAP sensor, as the plugs will be different, but you can leave the
idle air adjustment motor alone, even though it sez 4.0. It won't make a
difference. It takes 20 minutes to clean it and bolt it on, and bingo! A
noticeable difference above 2500 rpm, pulls all the way to the redline,
for $42! Woohoo! Here's the head-scratcher: the port in the intake
manifold is larger then the 2.5L throttle body, and matches the 4.0L
throttle body exactly. It's like it was made for it. Go figure.
www.turbocity.com has Jeep 2.5L performance parts, including ported
TBs for the 2.5 and the 4.0, both for $200 plus $200 core. Although why
you'd pay $200 for a ported 2.5 TB is beyond me, when you can do what I
just did, above. Heh. Unless you want to put a ported 4.0 on your 2.5?
Also at Turbocity is an excellent air intake tube. It replaces the
entire intake muffler/s-shaped tube contraption with just one tube just
long enough to reach over the engine. Once again, a noticeable
difference. $75 plus a cone air filter, got mine off Ebay for $20.
Beautiful. Once again, a 15 minute install.
The next step is to borrow a friend's Gtech and make a few runs, see
how much difference shows up in the numbers.
Next: Pacesetter makes a header for the 97 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L for
$137. Gonna pick one up and see if it works out.....
