Whine from rear end?

Well, I'm here at Carlisle. On the way here though I started to
notice a strange whine coming from the truck. I heard it a couple
of times on the way down but really noticed it after I was in Carlisle
driving with the windows down. It increases in pitch with speed.
Putting the tranny in neutral doesn't eliminate the noise, though it
does seem to be louder if I leave it in gear while decelerating.

My brake shoes weren't abnormally hot, my rearend fluid is up to
the hole, and none of my u-joints are loose. The driveshaft does
move a little bit, but its rotating at the tranny and the rearend,
not at the u-joints. (is that normal?)

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas as to what might be wrong or
what to check? This is a noise that I haven't noticed before.
Just hoping the truck holds together since I'm 350 miles from home...

 Thanks!
