RedLine C+ specifies that it meets the Mopar ATF+3 specs...not yet labeled
for +4. We've run this (RedLine C+) in 5 NV transfer cases with no
problems over the last couple hundred thousand combined miles. We run MTL
in the Toyota t-cases, which are built similarly but call for 30 weight
motor oil.
Question 1: Maybe I missed something, I didn't see it stated in the
TSB on Mopar's new ATF+4 that it was synthetic. When I asked at Chrysler,
they didn't know for sure. Can anyone shed light on this???
Question 2: Does the transfer case share/intermix fluid with the
tranny? I didn't think it did, but why does it use ATF to lubricate gears
and a chain? Why not use a lube meant for the purpose rather than ATF
which is a hydraulic fluid with lubricating considerations? Why not use
something like RedLine MTL or similar light weight gear lube, that's
actually designed as a gear lube, to better lubricate the transfer case
gears and chain?

I was looking to pickup some Synthetic ATF (Mobile 1) yesterday and
noticed that I could not find any that said they met the ATF+3
requirements.
