The WRONG way to test for transmission troubles

Heres another Gary-ism for the archives! While the results weren't bad,
It's still just plain wrong!

As you may know, I thought I was having transmission trouble, and I was
gearing up to buy a new transmission....but there was a little, tiny-weenie,
part of my heart that told me it may not be the transmission. Instead of
taking it somewhere to get checked out, I decided to find out for sure by
taking it on a 300 mile trip down to my relatives in St. Louis MO!

Yeah, I may be a moron.... but I think theres no better way to test a theory
than to test it in a real life situation. So I packed a few things and
hopped in the truck friday night and took off. The first 100 miles were
pretty scarry, got the same symptoms as before (fluxuating RPM's while on
cruise).... but then I decided to turn the cruise off and hold the gas at
1/2 throttle. Guess what! Nothing!! No fluxuation in RPM's, no funny
noises, nothing! The truck ran great the rest of the way there, and the
way back...getting about 18mpg's on average for the trip.

So whats the moral of the story?? I guess it's that test drives are great,
but crossing state lines to see if you have truck problems is pretty stupid.
But, I had fun annyway!!! I got to see some relitives I haven't seen in a
while, and I got to relax for once....which is something I haven't done in a
while ;)

...Now back to my boring life!
