Yeah, I thought about that. I followed the directions in my Haynes manual.
Move the engine to TDC and torque to specifications (21 ft-lbs). Like I
mentioned below, there seems to be compression. I removed a plug and didn't
even have to put my finger in the hole. All of the liquid (carb cleaner and
gas) that I had poured into the throttle body blew out all over my hand. It
seems strange to me since there was gas in the cylinder and I verified that
there's spark... why isn't it igniting? Could the intake be remaining open?
I put my hand over the end of the tailpipe and had someone turn the key so
the engine was turning over. I didn't feel any real air coming out. I
figured I should feel some sort of air puffing. Was something wrong with my
method of installing the roller rockers?
The manual didn't say anything about rotating the engine for every rocker.
It only stated that I had to find TDC and then tighten them down.
