I was just there in March (note: don't go in March, it's still
partially snow covered). It was only open to mile 13 of 19, but the
drive up was a breeze in the 2wd Chrysler Sebring rental car. The
road is paved all the way up to the store/shack where I had to stop.
Any vehicle should be able to make it at least that far. I would
suggest making sure you have at least half a tank of gas, and some
water for the radiator if you've got an older vehicle. The road is
fairly steep, and they suggested you keep it in 1st or 2nd all the way
back down.
