The ranger isn't the same compact truck it was a few years ago. It has
grown right along with the S-10 to compete better with the Dakota. I still
can't foresee Dodge axing the mid-size truck. Maybe axing the name Dakota,
but there will still be amid-size truck. Throw in a 6 cyl diesel engine and
ditch the V8s.

Ford doesn't sell a midsize truck. The Ranger is still a compact, and
it's gone after the '09 model year.

Chevy *makes* a midsize truck, but they aren't selling. And really
haven't since they were introduced.
