Well, in my case, I came to a traffic light and it was smoking. No kidding. :)
I don't think you can be sure without pulling the rotor. I went through two off them on two different Gen II Daks.

What's making me suspect it is:
- A lot of grease on the wheel and in the well
- A low "grinding" noise... actually I feel it more than hear it
- My '95 had similar symptoms at about the same mileage, and it was the hub.
