Transfer case shifting

Another trick to shift into or out of low range is to put the tranny in
neutral then shut off the engine, shift the transfer case then restart the
engine. The hard shifting of the transfer case is due to excessive drag
torque in the automatic tranny of the v-8 dakotas and shutting of the
engine this is eliminated.

The main reason dodge went to the unsyncrhonized t-case, was to
reduce 4hi shift effort and so it's an instantaneous shift, no waiting for
front axle to engage. The 1500 rams use almost the same transfer case
as the older v-8 dakota, NV 231 HD, and they have no problem with
synchronizer durability. The removal of the synchronizer did not effect
the low range shift effort.
