Well, here's an update with the Doug Thorley's and PINGING:

I have gotten a hold of DT about the clearance problem, and I am
heading down to Ed Hanson's Muffler to have him take a look... DT was real
good about wanting to correct the situation (if it's a motor-mount or
transmission mount issue, or a problem with their product has not yet been
determined...BUT I sure appreciate the assistance they have offered).
More to follow this week about that.

        PINGING:

A couple things about pinging: I have had pinging problems from
day #1 with the MP SBEC, and if I take it to 3500 rpm or more, or lay into
it in 5th gear on ANY hill, it pings... All of this is with 92 octane. I
use Texaco on a regular basis, but have tried SHELL, Chevron, and Mobil,
with the exact same results.

A week ago this past Sat. I installed a set of DT headers... I
have a problem with clearance on my steering column, but not a big deal
(it's being resolved). I did notice 4 things with the DT headers:
#1) The exhaust note is a lot more 'TUNE', and deeper (a little
louder too, but not by much)
#2) The truck PULLS a great deal more off the line, plus the midrange-top
end has gotten a lot more 'snappy'... Meaning @ 75 mph I floor it in 5th
and the truck pulls to 90 mph in 5 seconds... but for passing purposes, the
truck can easily get up and go quickly.
#3) The truck runs cooler... That's right, cooler... The temp gauge sits
a little lower than what it use to... about 1/4 vs. 3/8th's on the tank
(yes the temp gauge...not the FUEL gauge, but you know what I mean).
#4) The pinging RARELY happens now... I attribute this to the lower
operating temps... I have yet to pin-point how it works, but it does.
No more Super 104+ for me...

FYI I talked to the local Dodge folks here and asked them about
the seat belt problem we all have talked about... No TSB or recall has
come out, but he did say that if people called the phone # in the back
of their manuals and complained about the problem, something might happen.
(250 or so people call, it might be up for a recall... It IS a legitimate
problem, so I will be calling to give Chrysler my situation) Oh yeah,
when I pulled into the dealership, the guys said "What do you have in that
thing?!? It sounds great!" I lifted the hood, and they were impressed.
Apparently they have never seen a Dakota with headers, only the Rams.
