Didn't mean to sound like I was downplaying the autos. Sorry if
that's how it came across. I will agree with you on the autos
consistancy. For drag racin' there is no contest when it comes to
consistancy. Maybe the torque multiplication and shifting consistancy
is what makes the difference over the sticks.
The nitrous "fool proofing" would assume no grinding gears so I guess
you got me here. My idea centered around using an additional WOT
switch for the clutch to ensure no nitrous flow should you not get out
of the gas (I typically don't powershift). The system would also need
a RPM window type controller (MSD has one) that would limit nitrous
flow to an area between two set rpm points. I'm a complete rookie
when in comes to nitrous and all my knowledge has come from reading
but it the quickest, cheapest way I know to get the kind of power it
produces.
Someone also mentioned somewhere in this thread (boy it seems like I
opened a can of worms here :) ) about the long travel for the shifts.
Has anyone pulled the boot of there shifter. Is the NV3500 an
internal rail type shift like the Borg Warner T5's? I'd really like
to see Hurst look into an upgraded shifter for our trucks. I mean,
come on, there's a Hurst replacement for early 90's S10's! The
Dakota's got the only V8 in the class and they're doing shifters for
the Chevy's. I don't know about anyone else but I think I'd part with
$150 for a better shifter with over-travel protection.
Anyhoo, I'm glad to see the different opinions on this one.

Hell no, jsut didn't make sense to me. <snip>

nitrous a bit and was leaning towards the auto but I think I figured

How? Maybe wire a grind detector in series with the WOT switch?? Ha Ha only
joking..
<snip> please don't hammer the auto until your whooopin em regularly.
