Sam:

Then you're the exception to the rule. At our club's launch ramp (which
isn't steep, but can be covered in slime or sand), 9 out of 10 gear jammers
spin their tires. It is particulary funny (sad) watching the guys burn
their tires with undersized trucks (Chevs, Fords, Nissans etc) pulling 17+
foot boats.

I've had both and I'll take an automatic on a boat launch ramp any day.
But just to qualify it further, I used to think a manual transmission was
the only way to go with a pickup (especially 4x4), but that was in the days
of three speed automatics and 4:11 rear ends. The auto gave you lousy gas
mileage both in the city and the highway and reduced power.

With a modern 4 spd. automatics and lock-up torque converters, those
problems are solved. Since my primary objective is function and comfort,
not racing Fords, I'll take an automatic any day.

Cheers :)
