Hi Dave,
        Personally I would go with the liner, and if objects sliding in
the bed irritates you you could always put a mat on top of the liner to
stop the sliding. I've had no problems with a liner besides stuff sliding
all over bed when you take a curve fast (Isn't that just so much fun to
do.), but other than that it works great, I've had no scratching, no water
underneath liner, no rust or anything else. My opinion would be to get
the liner.
