Not wanting to get into a debate (or flame war) over waxes, polishes,
etc. , just passing along experience. The finest product I have ever used
to shine and protect is a product called First Finish. It is a synthetic.
The prep product which is used prior to the first application of the
polish to smooth the surface and has proven to be very effective at
removing swirl marks on black. The actual polish is incredible.
I do not have any financial connection to this comapny; I just know it
works better than anything I have ever used. If anyone is interested, try

I saw a report, however, about paint problems on vehicles manufactured
between 1985 and 1993. During this period of time all domestic
manufacturers (and probably some foreign) had eliminated one step in the
painting process between the primer and the final coat. It was belived
that a new primer eliminated the need for the intermediate step. It turns
out the intermediate step protects the primer from UV. Those vehicles
without the intermediate step suffer primer breakdown from UV damage and
the paint loses color and comes off the vehicles. I believe 93 was the
last year this was done and all domestics since then have the
intermediate coat. No polish or wax seems to have enough UV blocking
ability to prevent this from occurring on those vehicles without the
intermediate step.
