David -
I have a question for you. I just returned a Kenwood tape receiver.
I was really impressed with the unitīs performance, but absolutely hated
the control layout. Iīve already upgraded the speakers all around, and the
new front end made it clear that the stock radio was the weak link.
To replace it, Iīve ordered the new Blaupunkt Sydney, with the
smart card anti-theft feature. Judging just by the specs, it seems like
Iīll be giving up a bit of performance for this feature, but Iīve had a
pull-out Blaupunkt in my girlfriendīs VW Bug for about eight years now, and
the tape deck still works great. Also, I listen to the radio quite a bit,
and the Blaupunktīs new Codem IV tuner is supposed to be pretty awesome.
I went to Fryīs, where they "burn-in" their radios by having them
on all the time, and the detachable-face Blaupunkts got way too hot for
comfort. Semiconductor reliablity drops off dramatically as temp increases,
so I stayed away from them. They didnīt have the KeyCard decks there. BTW,
the KeyCard also stores your station presets, so you can have different
station presets on separate cards. Pretty cool. Mostly, I didnīt want to
worry about where I was keeping my detachable face.
Just wondering what your opinion is. The īsisterī CD-receiver
version is the Toronto.
