>Hey guys, sorry if the subject line sounds like spam. I just got my 94 V6
Dak Sport back from the shop, where it got the timing chain & sprockets
replaced. The problem was a rattle in the engine at idle. Turns out the
chain was
worn, had too much slack, and was rubbing on the oil slinger. Wally the
Mechanic
had shown it to a friend of his who was a Chrysler technician for years. He
said he couln't even count how many 3.9 V6's he had to do this job on right
around 50,000 miles. (my Dak just hit 51,000) The O.E. chains just seem to
have
a lifespan of 50K. Just a warning anyone with a 3.9L Dakota or Ram, in case
your motor starts to rattle around 50K...I wonder if the TDR replacement will
 last longer????? >>

I dont know about this things about the chain needing replacing at 50,000
miles. My Dak currently has 102,000 hard miles on it and even though I plan on
getting it replaced within the next 2 months, I still dont know about having
it done at 50,000. I know most places recommend changing it or having it
looked at at about 100,000 miles. Just goes to prove though maybe that 93 was
the best year for the Daks :)
I called the dealer and here is what is needed for the replacment:
'Sprocket Package'(includes 2 sprockets and timing chain)......$55
Tensioner.....................................................................
.......$38.75
Also, the parts guy told me I will need about $15 worth of 3-4 gaskets.
So for about $110, this can and will be fixed.
