Went to the track at Cayuga, Ontario to further test
the BFG drag radials. Day was sunny, hot (80F at 11 a.m.)
and windy (racing into a headwind). Traction on the track
was very good though. Results were 0.3 sec. and 2.5 mi/hr
off last week's results.
Found I could spin the tires pretty well by going through
the water pit, putting the auto. into 2nd, holding the brakes
and putting the revs. above 2000.
Could then launch at 1500 rpm and immediately putting the pedal to
the metal without wheel spin. Made manual 1-2 shift at 5500 rpm
and 2-3 shift at 5000 rpm with overdrive off. Tire pressure was
set to 18 lbs.
Decided to enter the street eliminator ($5 more) rather just
time trials. Dialled in a 15.9 and made it into the final
round (4th round). 1st round competitor drove a Indy Ram
and had a dial in of 14.8. We both broke out and we could not
tell who won at the finish line (it was so even). The finalist
was the track's last year street eliminator champion. Redlighted
with a .435 reaction time. (His was a .508 RT). Found out later
that I was to receive money ($35) for making it into the finals.
Why didn't someone mention you could get money from this?
Mike Leach headers arrived Friday noon and will be installing
them tomorrow. Hope cam and rocker arms come in by Tuesday.
Would like to run this setup June 13 at Mopars at Cayuga.
Sorry for the length...an totally unexpected experience.
