Over the past few weeks, I have noticed that 3rd gear is getting a little
more difficult to upshift into on my 94 Dak Sport V6. It seems to be
developing a tendency to grind and chatter when going in, especially if I
have run it up above 3000 rpm in 2nd. A couple months ago I changed the
tranny oil,, putting in Mobil 1 synthetic 75W-90. Might this have
something to do with the problem? My first reaction was "Oh, s**t, there
go the synchros. ", (The truck has 61,000 miles), but I was under the
impression that if the synchros were going, the first indication would be
difficulty DOWNSHIFTING into that gear from a higher one. I rarely have a
problem with downshifting, except occasionally when it it seems as if a
wall is erected at the 3rd gear gate, but only momentarily. This problem
is really pissing me off as I haven't had the truck long, and I now have
to be real careful about shifting into 3rd, so speed-shifting is nearly
impossible. Any ideas. Oh, yeah, I checked the tranny oil today and it
seems to be seeping around what I guess is the speedometer harness, (it's
an electrical connection coming out of the back of the tranny on the
driver's side, maybe it 's something else?) I topped off the oil (it only
took a small fraction of a quart), but I don't think that little bit could
be causing the problem. Any ideas and help are appreciated.
