Yeah, I'm not positive, but it almost sounds like a noisy rocker
and perhaps another noise from the bottom end as well. :(

That's basically the only thing I thought it could be. Some
have mentioned the belly pan gasket, but I've already had that
replaced (before the truck's service contract was cancelled) and
the consumption of two quarts in 350 miles seems unlikely
through a leaky gasket.

Yeah, the fender above the exhaust tip is coated in black soot.
I'm not sure whether I can describe the smoke as black or
blueish in color, but either way, I guess its bad.

Yeah, I guess that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for your
help. Anyone know of any good shops in Ohio that do quality
work? Hmm . . . given the "if it breaks, upgrade it" philosophy
I've taken so far, how much am I talking to bore out my 318?
Probably a lot, huh? Damn, this sucks.
