I have read quite a few messages in the archives about this, but I would like a
few more hopefully "simple" questions answered about a timing chain. I have a
5.9l (360 ci) magnum v8 ('93-first magnum 360 year). After much searching and
replacing of parts, the dodge dealership got their chance and said my problem
was a timing chain. Cost is not an object and I am the kind that mechanics
love because not only do I replace (in this case just a timing chain), but
everything surrounding, related or unrelated to the subject at hand just to
eliminate some more weak links that I would otherwise have to do the same job
for.
Anyhow, the timing chain is my problem. I know that there is a timing chain
tensioner available from mopar, but my question is what timing chain should I
get? I don't want the same one that it was originally equipped with (even
though it lasted 133,000 miles)-a true double roller would be perfect, but
which ones would fit the bill? I've seen several made by most aftermarket
companies, but they only show through either 1988 or 1990 on the years
indicated for a 360. Cloyes and Comp Cams are the two that I am particularly
interested in, and Cloyes has been mentioned in many of the archives, but I'm
just curious if the Comp Cams (#'s 2103 or 3103) would work with the tensioner
or not (also if they would even work with this engine) and same thing with the
Cloyes?
Any information on this would be extremely appreciated.
