Luddite! Vile infidel! What unspeakable evils are these, which

Umm, on second thought I guess that'd be all right.

Josh wouldn't do that, would he? You must be thinking of somebody

: I have a generator as well - and I was pondering playing with the
: exhaust on it to see if I can get it to run quieter. Maybe fudge up a
: automotive muffler to quiet down the exhaust. Unless I missed
: Generators 101 - the most noise mine produces is from the exhaust. The

: for use up at my cabin up north. I have yet to build it yet. I'm
: going to incorperate two fans for air circulation and cooling - and pipe
: the exhaust out the back.

Yeah, the exhaust is the noisy bit on mine too. I've also wondered
what would happen if I were to stick an automotive muffler on there,
but never got around to it. I'll be interested to hear your results
whenever you try it out.

: There are smaller geni units out there that are quieter. Specifically
: called camping generators. But they dont put out much power and I dont
: really know how much quieter they are.

Ed and I were at Oshkosh a few years back and saw a pretty
impressive display that one of the vendors in the "swap meet" sort
of area had set up. It was a portable Honda generator (tiny little
thing, about the size of a briefcase) that had a standard household
fan plugged into it. The generator was so quiet that you couldn't
hear it running over the sound of the fan blades. I doubt something
like that could run a lot of stuff though; maybe a few lamps or a
laptop, but pretty impressive nonetheless.
