Just got ahold of something that I thought everyone would like to see.
It's an email response I got from Hypertech regarding their PTM, Power
Tuning Module, which does the same thing as the Mopar Performance SBEC.
You might remember a while back I said that my pinging problems went
away when I installed the DT headers. Well, I may have spoke too soon.
I have been hearing it again lately under high rpm and heavy throttle.
BUT, this may be because my EGR valve is a little screwy (as seen in
previous posts), so the jury is still out as to the headers helping the
detonation. So just for kicks, I emailed Hypertech about their unit.
The response I got back has some eyebrow-raising content. Read it and
you'll see what I mean.....

WE ORIGINALLY ENGINEERED A PRODUCT FOR 13HP WITHOUT ANY PINGING. NOW WE HAVE REFINED THE PRODUCT AFTER MANY HOURS AND ACTUALLY PURCHASING A 318 DAKOTA AND GOTTEN 24 HP, WHICH IS ONE OF THE LARGEST GAINS WE HAVE DEVELOPED ON A NORMALLY ASPIRATED ENGINE (NO SUPERCHARGER, OR TURBO) . I THINK DODGE IS JUST ADVANCING TIMING ALL THE WAY ACROSS BUT WE ARE USING TABLES OF REFERENCE FOR THROTTLE POSITION AND OTHERS TO FLUCTUATE IN THE PROPER AMOUNT FOR OPTIMIZED POWER. WE HAVE ACTUALLY TESTED OUR PRODUCT W/ 87 OCT GAS WITHOUT PINGING. CALL ME @ 901-382-8888 AND WE CAN TALK MORE. THANKS, BILL HESSELBEIN EXT #13
