Rear End/NV3500 Lube

At ~26K on my '95, I decided it was probably time to swap out the
rear end lube. Especially considering the fact that I tow occasionally
and haul a good 800-1000# every other week or so. This is a Sure Grip
limited slip unit with 3.55 gears.

Since stuff like differential and tranny lube tends to get ignored
for long periods of time, this was a perfect opportunity to start
using synthetics.

Unfortunately, the local NAPA only stocked Valvoline synthetic lube,
which indicated "not recommended for limited slip applications." Oh
well, off to AutoZone, where I got some 75W-90 Mobil 1 which met the
GL-5 spec as well as limited slip applications. About 50 miles after
the swap, I have no leaks and no extra noise, so it seems OK. Anyone
else used this stuff? This is the first Mobil 1 product I've used,
and was sufficiently impressed. Compared to the mineral oil stern
drive lubes I've used, it was almost clear and didn't have as much
sulfur additive, so didn't stink anywhere near as much.

Next on the list: my NV3500 5-speed. The manual indicates that
a (presumably expensive and only at the dealer) Mopar lube is the
only approved fill for the NV3500. Anyone know why? I'll use it
if I have to, but would prefer moving to a full synthetic if possible.

Has anyone used anything other than the Mopar lube in their NV3500?

  Ron
