I'm going to go out on a limb here and disagree with most of you - my first ride (the one
I learned to drive in & drove throughout High School) was a '67 Plymouth Fury VIP (3700
lbs.) with a 383 big-block V8. I think my 'early-on' training with all that power helped
me to learn to respect that power and be better able to control it. I quickly learned
things like 'throttle-on' oversteer at a young age and was able to more quickly adapt and
learn my driving style during my 'formative' years.
OTOH, I lived out in the backwoods (2 miles to nearest highway, 11 miles of gravel roads
into school), so I learned most of my driving skills on gravel. Once you take those to
pavement, you are amazed at what you can do with a little traction
:)
